How to Become Flexible and Why You Need To

April 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

The definition of patience is to tolerate delay. With that said, if you can’t, you better get on board the flexible train; whenever it leaves.

Being flexible is a skill that can be used all throughout your life. It can help you get more things done in a small amount of time. When you become flexible, the more important tasks get easily accomplished while the smaller stuff can get set aside until down time. It allows change to enter your day and still have things be okay. Because change will occur and it’s better to be okay with it then stressed.

Now, if you are the type of person that has to plan everything out with time limits for each project and how everything will get done, then you need to realize that there are other ways of doing things. The amount of time you have in a day to complete these tasks will not change, so don’t worry about time limits. Throw those out the window.

Next, you need to learn how to plan ahead. Obviously, you won’t be able to foresee everything that might come your way. But if your office is the type that has changes occurring regularly, like the way your boss wants something done, then be prepared for it. Let the details go until last as those are the kinds of things that inevitably will change. Plan for these things as best you can in order to design a pre-emptive strike.

These are just some examples, as I can’t predict what happens in your office. But know that somewhere down the line, change will occur and you have to be ready for it. If not, it’s like the equivalent of professional suicide. And somebody, somewhere is ready and waiting to pick up the pieces, flexibly.
