Outsourcing, good or bad?

May 9th, 2008 · No Comments

Right now, you’d probably scream that outsourcing is horrible— taking jobs away from many Americans to give to low cost countries. And while true, in the grand scheme of things it can come back as being beneficial to us. Outsourcing and globalization go hand in hand. But globalization cannot work when one country has everything. And globalization will eventually be what brings the whole planet together to hopefully create a successful world economy.

In order to make things better, they must first be changed. And with any kind of change, comes anxiety, understandably. What you must realize, however, is that by giving these countries a chance to build themselves up, we’re giving ourselves future consumers. Once they can buy, sell and trade, they can do so with us. That is a good thing for all those involved, i.e., everyone.

So then, is globalization good or bad? It’s inevitable; we just need to watch how it grows. Should the U.N. be thought of as the traffic cops on the highway of information, deciding what is fair and what is not and whether or not to enforce it? Some people say yes, they should shoulder that responsibility. And that is where the problem lies. Because although there is freedom and choice, there is also greed and corruption. But that has little to do with outsourcing and so I digress.

You also have to understand that companies have to be competitive. If that means outsourcing jobs in order to save money so that they can be competitive, then that’s what it means. And think about it, outsourcing is a huge endeavor. If they are frantic enough to do it, then you have to wonder how much longer they would have been afloat anyway. And if the company goes under, so does your job.

You can’t change the way things are. You can’t change the economy or magically create thousands of jobs in America. The best thing you can do, then, is to look toward the future and know that everything will work out; that’s all you can do.
