Orlando, FL – When Bill Johnson from Orlando, Florida lost his job as a Database Specialist in April of 2008, he had no idea how hard it would be to find a new one. But nine months of hitting the pavement, applying with staffing agencies, and daily checking the Internet job boards yielded very few results. As the economy worsened, Johnson quickly saw the number of available jobs shrink while the number of jobseekers kept growing. That’s when he decided he needed to do something to make himself stand out in the crowd. So he launched a website geared towards accomplishing one goal – persuading a perspective employer to hire him.
HireBillJohnson.com is more than just an online resume. It does list Johnson’s skills, talents, professional accomplishments, and work history. But it also details his personal qualities, such as his honesty and strong work ethic, which make him an ideal employee. Additionally, the site features recommendations from Johnson’s former managers and colleagues. There is also a portfolio of Johnson’s writing samples.
The realities of today’s economy have forced Johnson to become flexible in his job search. “I’m not just looking at IT,” he says, “I’m willing to go into any field where I believe I can do a good job for my employer. I have experience with data reporting, management, customer service, retail, warehousing, you name it. Just give me a chance to show what I can do.”
Times have been tough for Johnson and his wife, who can’t work due to her poor health. But he remains hopeful, “We’ve been able to survive pretty much due to the generosity of our family and friends. It’s pretty scary when you don’t know where your next mortgage payment is coming from. But I’m confident there’s a great job out there for me.”
What would his ideal job be? He says, “I would love to write for a living.”
